Tottenham expert issues ‘huge’ verdict after Cristian Romero news – ‘you cannot do that’

Paul Robinson has claimed there is zero chance of Tottenham boss Antonio Conte bowing down to Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni’s demands ahead of the World Cup.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-White Hart Lane number one said Conte, 53, would “never succumb to pressure from international manager.”

According to Doble Amarilla, via The Spurs Express (25 September), Argentina will ask their players not to play in the last set of matches before the World Cup.

Scaloni is said to want his players, one of which could be Cristian Romero, to be rested for fixtures between 11 and 13 of November.

Antonio Conte’s side welcome Leeds United to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 12 November.

When asked by Football Insider if Conte would listen to Scaloni’s demands, Robinson said: “It is a difficult one.

“It is a club-country row. As a manager at club level, you cannot do that. You cannot bow down to the international manager’s demands.

“It is going to be a huge game against Leeds United. Tottenham’s sole aim is to challenge at the top of the table.

“I cannot imagine Antonio Conte would take a request from an international manager regarding one of his best players. His job is to manage Tottenham. He is judged on how his team play and the results his team get.

“He has not interest in whether Argentina do well at the World Cup. The only thing he cares about is winning trophies for Spurs.

“I do not think for one minute he would ever succumb to pressure from an international manager whether that be with Romero or any other player. He is so passionate about Spurs. I cannot see it.”
