Tottenham expert issues ‘incredible’ verdict after Son Heung-min speaks out
Alan Hutton has claimed the amount of fixtures Tottenham have to play nowadays is “incredible” compared to when he was a player.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs right-back said players would “rather play games” despite how tough fixture congestion can be.
The Lilywhites face a run of ten games in just four and a half weeks after their game against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday (12 October).
As quoted by the Evening Standard (11 October), Son Heung-min said his teammates shouldn’t complain about fixture schedules as they are “living the dream”.
The 30-year-old said although the schedule is tough, players should consider themselves lucky.
Hutton understands why players struggle with the schedules though.
“It is difficult, there is no getting away from that,” he told Football Insider.
“The output nowadays is very demanding, physically and mentally, so I totally understand.
“I am retired three or four years now, when I was playing you were not playing as many games as you are now. It is incredible.
“You look at the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, they are playing 70-plus games.
“When I was playing if you played 35 games a season, touching 40, that was a lot.
“So it has moved on even in four or five years. I understand it but everybody always says you would rather play games and that is pretty much true.

“It is very demanding, it is a physical game now so it is a tough one.
“I see both sides of the argument but the scheduling is difficult at this moment in time, especially if you are competing on all fronts.“
