Tottenham expert lambasts rival fans amid Harry Kane latest – ‘do you understand football?’
Tottenham star Harry Kane deserves more credit from rival fans amid a fresh round of criticism.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Kane moved within two goals of Wayne Rooney’s record 53 goals for England by scoring a penalty as his side drew 3-3 with Germany on Monday (26 September).
The Spurs striker’s latest goal prompted a discussion on social media about where Kane stands in the pantheon of great English strikers.
Wenham “can’t believe” what he has heard from rival fans this week.
“Alan Shearer used to get his kind of flack,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He is England’s main talismna, I’m sure Beckham got this as well. Harry is the star man for England. He is the only one who would go in a World XI squad from England.
“I just love how the goalposts have shifted from ‘one season wonder Harry’ to ‘won’t go down as one of the greatest’.
“There is a big yard stick between those two things. The facts are, if he doesn’t get injured, he will go down as the all-time record goal scorer for England.
“He will also go down as the Premier League record goalscorer. He’s the first player to captain England to a cup final since 1966.
“It’s about time he was given some credit, I can’t believe I’m saying this. Those who still question Harry Kane, do you understand football?
“Harry Kane will go on and break those records and I just hope he can get over the line and win a significant trophy with Tottenham.”

Kane has scored six goals in seven Premier League games this season.
Tottenham are next in action against Arsenal on Saturday (1 October).
