Tottenham expert predicts FA rule change as Cristian Romero-Marc Cucurella footage analysed

The FA could rewrite their rules after Cristian Romero avoided a red card for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair during Tottenham v Chelsea.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Romero, 24, was caught pulling Cucurella’s hair while the players jostled ahead of a late Spurs corner.

VAR performed a red card check on the indecent but did not choose to punish the Tottenham defender.

Spurs scored from the resulting corner as Harry Kane stole a point for his side.

Wenham insists Romero was “very, very lucky” to avoid a red card and an extended ban, and told the player to be “wiser” in future.

“VAR looked at it and they made their decision that it was not a red,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“We are where we are with that. For me, Romero has to be a lot wiser. Especially in the times of VAR and things like that.

“There was an incident in the first half where Cucurella stepped on Romero and he is not the type of guy to forget about that.

“He is going to have to be smarter because that is violent conduct if you ask me, dragging someone down by their hair.

“It probably isn’t in the FA’s rules as of yet but with an increasing number of players with a big hair style, I think they might rewrite the rule to include pulling someone’s hair as being a red card.

“He was very, very lucky to not be sent off.”
