Tottenham expert shares ‘big’ Oliver Skipp prediction after injury update

Oliver Skipp will displace one of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg or Rodrigo Bentancur in the Tottenham starting XI once he returns to full fitness.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On 17 August, Alasdair Gold reported Skipp is set to return to first-team training imminently after a lengthy layoff.

The 21-year-old’s latest knock came after jumping for an aerial challenge with a teammate at Hotspur Way the day before the friendly against Rangers this summer (23 July).

Skipp’s last senior Spurs appearance came against Chelsea on 23 January.

Wenham expects Skipp to keep his place in the side once he is given an opportunity by Antonio Conte.

“We have seen in the games already, with the new five subs rule, you can involve a lot of players,”

“You don’t want them feeling like they have been uninvolved. For the moment I think we will continue with Hojbjerg and Bentancur because we aren’t losing games.

“Bissouma will have to bide his time and that is the same as Skippy. As I have always said about Skippy, I would not be surprised at all if, when he does come back, when he is given that opportunity to start for whatever reason, he will stay there.

“Every Tottenham manager loves Skipp, Mourinho, Poch, Conte. There is a big reason they love him.”

On 20 April, it was announced Skipp had signed a new deal, keeping him at Tottenham until 2027.

The midfielder has been at Spurs since he was five years old with 2025 set to mark 20 years with the club.
