Tottenham expert shares ‘exclusive’ news as two superstars set to join

Yaya Toure will be coaching the Tottenham Under 16 side after agreeing to join the club on a permanent basis.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Toure and Jermain Defoe are set to join the Spurs academy coaching staff on a permanent basis.

On 1 December, Sky Sports reported the Man City icon was working alongside Spurs academy coaches Dean Rastrick and Chris Powell on an informal basis to gain experience.

Defoe has been doing punditry work after retiring in March.

Wenham is delighted both players will be joining the club.

“I have a bit of an exclusive on this, Yaya Toure will be coaching our Under 16s,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He will work with the under 18s as well but I have been told he will be the main head coach of the Under 16s.

“It’s a job that a chap called Stewart Lewis, who is now with the Under 18s, did last year. So Yaya will have a specific group to work with and that will be the Under 16s.

“Jermain will be an all-around attacker’s coach for all adjacent age groups. I always really liked Toure, he won everything in the game and played for some massive clubs.

“People forget he was at Barcelona when they were very successful.

I think he was a brilliant player and he is a good person to have around.

“It’s all well and good having legends around but Toure is someone the young players will actually remember watching and they can look up to him.”
