Tottenham expert shares ‘huge’ Destiny Udogie verdict after ‘never-seen’ twist
Destiny Udogie’s season-ending injury is a “huge blow” for Tottenham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton claimed that Udogie’s injury has come at a difficult time due to Tottenham’s challenging run-in which includes the North London Derby on Sunday (28 April), Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City.
The club confirmed on Sunday (21 April) that the defender has undergone surgery to his left quadriceps after picking up an injury in training and is set to rejoin the squad in pre-season.
The 21-year-old has been a mainstay under Postecoglou this season having started every Premier League game he has been available for while being a crucial component to how the Australian sets up his side.
Tottenham face “huge blow” with Destiny Udogie injury
Hutton feared how Spurs may play without the Italy international, but suggested that another star could now be handed a “big opportunity” to impress the manager.
“Of course, I’m concerned heading into this run,” he told Football Insider.
“I think defensively and the way that Tottenham play with high lines and full-backs playing more or less as number 10s – you don’t normally see it.
“It’s very difficult for someone to come in in place of Udogie and play that role.
“I could never have done that!
“It’s a huge blow to lose Udogie – let’s not get away from that.
“Does Ange slightly change the style of play? Does Ben Davies come in?
“I can’t see him playing that same role.

“It will hurt Spurs moving forward, especially with these big games coming up.
“But, it is a big opportunity for someone to come in and show the manager what they can do.”
