Tottenham expert shares ‘incredible’ Doherty claim and ‘brilliant’ thing he saw pitchside after Leeds win

Tottenham defender Matt Doherty could return to his “incredible” best after starring in his side’s win over Leeds.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Doherty scored his side’s first and picked up an assist in a 4-0 win over Leeds United on Saturday (26 February).

This was the 30-year-old’s third league start under Antonio Conte having not started in the top flight during Nuno Espirito Santo’s brief spell in charge earlier this season.

Wenham is hoping Doherty’s performance at Elland Road can jumpstart his Spurs career.

“It wasn’t just the goal he scored but he laid off an absolutely perfect pass that Sessegnon couldn’t convert,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“That could have been Conte ball at its finest. Both fullbacks were bombing forward.

“It reminded me of Alexander-Arnold and Robertson at Liverpool which was really promising to see.

“I was really pleased with Doherty and of course he got himself the assist for Kulusevski’s goal.

“He had another chance he didn’t take but it was really encouraging to see him getting forward.

“He did a brilliant interview with SpursTV after the game and he was clearly delighted about getting his first goal for the club.

“It sounds like he’s enjoying himself from that interview and he wants to keep playing this way.

“I’m hoping he now gets a run in the side over the next few weeks.

“It would be incredible to have him back to how he used to play at Wolves.”
