Tottenham expert shares ‘unbelievable’ Tariq Lamptey claim after what he heard from ‘commentator’

Tottenham will not sign Tariq Lamptey because of his injury record and poor fitness.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Lamptey, 21, has been a standout player for Brighton since he joined the club in January 2020.

However, he has struggled with injuries this season, only starting 13 Premier League games.

Wenham previously told this site (3 February) Lamptey is someone Spurs should be working to sign but he now insists this won’t happen after what he heard last week.

“Whatever happens in the summer, we need to invest,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“We need to get new wing-backs in because the ones we have simply aren’t good enough.

“I’ve been going on about us signing Lamptey from Brighton for a while now.

“But I would cross him off the list. He didn’t play against us last week which I thought was odd.

“The commentator made it very clear that he is actually unable to play two games in a week because of his injuries.

“I mean, that’s unbelievable. That’s not good enough. You can’t spend millions of pounds on someone who is physically unable to play two games a week.

“I think that’s why clubs haven’t and maybe won’t make moves from him in the future.”

Lamptey missed the start of this season with a hamstring injury.

However, he has played every league game since 16 October but the majority of his outings have come off the bench.
