Tottenham expert shares verdict on Oliver Skipp returning v Newcastle after confirmed news
Oliver Skipp should not return to the Tottenham starting XI for Sunday’s game against Newcastle.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Tottenham welcome Newcastle to North London on Sunday (3 April) looking to continue their push for a top-four finish.
Skipp, 21, has been out for over two months after breaking down with a groin problem in the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on 23 January.
Speaking via club media on Friday (1 April), Antonio Conte revealed the midfielder is “very close” to a return.
However, Wenham does not want to see Skipp starting against Newcastle.
“You know how much I love Oliver Skipp but the team has looked settled in recent weeks,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I’m not desperate to make changes at this moment in time.
“In an ideal world, I would just continue with what we have been doing.
“Let’s see where that takes us. I can’t see the international break having a huge bearing on this one, to be honest.
“We have won four out of our last five league games with the only loss being a hard-fought game at Man United.
“So, as I say, I’m not in a huge rush to change things at the moment.
“That team should have more than enough to get past Newcastle.”

On 1 April, Football Insider revealed Tottenham have reached an agreement in principle with Skipp over a new contract.
It is understood the midfielder has secured a major pay hike as a reward for establishing himself as a key member of the team.
