Tottenham expert suggests the club are signing ‘big name’ to replace Hugo Lloris

Alan Hutton has claimed Tottenham need to bring in a “big-name” goalkeeper in the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs right-back said that although Hugo Lloris and Fraser Forster will get their opportunities between now and the end of the season, Antonio Conte needs someone to be the “proper number one”.

Lloris, 36, is out of contract in June 2024 and backup Fraser Forster’s contract also expires at the same time.

As per Opta, captain Lloris has now made three errors leading to goals this season.

Spurs confirmed the deadline day signing of right-back Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon as well as the exits of Djed Spence on loan and Matt Doherty.

Hutton suggested it won’t be until the summer that they sign a replacement for Lloris.

I think it will be a summer move for the goalkeeper,” he told Football Insider.

I really believe that they are going to have to bring in a big name, someone for the future. Someone that is going to play for the next five, six or seven years. To do that is going to cost a lot of money.

Tottenham

Obviously Conte has picked out that the right-back position needs strengthening and has spent money. So I think Lloris and Forster will have those opportunities to be number one from now until the end of the season.

Then they can bring someone in that is really going to challenge and be the proper number one for years to come
