Tottenham expert’s verdict on Alessandro Bastoni deal completion after Sky reporter’s update
Tottenham have given up on signing Alessandro Bastoni despite claims to the contrary.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
This site revealed on 25 May that Spurs had identified Bastoni as their first choice left-sided centre-back this summer.

However, on 8 June, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, the defender’s agent claimed his client will be staying at Inter Milan after talks with the club’s board on 8 June.
On 19 June, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth told GiveMeSport that Spurs were “still pushing” to sign the defender.
However, Wenham is happy for Spurs to move on after Bastoni’s intentions were made clear.
“I’m quite happy to move on now,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“If the player’s will to facilitate the move isn’t there then that’s that. He’s made it clear that he wants to stay at Inter Milan, fair enough.
“We knew that two days before the window opened. I appreciate Dharmesh is trying to get the clicks and interactions but the player and his agent made it abundantly clear before the window opened that he is content to stay in Milan.
“Now we look at other targets, Pau Torres and Josko Gvardiol have been mentioned. I am happy for us to move on to another target at this stage.”

Tottenham have already signed Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma this summer.
They will kick off their 2022-23 Premier League campaign at home against Southampton on 6 August.
