Tottenham fans ‘deluded’ over ‘perfect’ Ange Postecoglou – Sky Sports pundit
Ange Postecoglou has been defended from criticism by “deluded” Tottenham supporters by Jay Bothroyd.
Spurs have endured a remarkably inconsistent start to the season, scoring more goals than any other team in the Premier League so far.
However their all-out style of play means they have also shipped plenty of goals – including three in each of their last three home games – which is making it difficult for them to pick up results.
That has already led to a number of Tottenham fans calling for him to be sacked this season, although Bothroyd believes those claims are unfair given what he has brought to the club.
Speaking about Postecoglou on Sky Sports (1:32pm) ahead of Spurs’ 6-3 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday (22 December), the one-time England international said:
“I’ve always liked him. He’s perfect for the Prem, the way the game is now. The high-press, playing expansive football, a lot of rotation. To be honest I don’t understand Tottenham fans, I think they’re deluded.
“They were complaining when Conte was manager about the style of football even though he was getting results. They were complaining about Mourinho, even though they got into a cup final and he got sacked the day before, pretty much, and they complained about his football.
“Now they’ve got a manager that actually plays football, and scores goals, and people enjoy going to the stadium now, they’re moaning again. I don’t get it, and I’m an Arsenal fan.”
Tottenham pressure will continue to build on Ange Postecoglou
Football Insider Opinion
Despite these comments from Bothroyd early on Sunday, the pressure is unlikely to ease on the Spurs boss any time soon.
That thrashing by Liverpool later in the day continued to highlight the vulnerability of the Tottenham defence, which is going to make it hard to win the trophies the club so badly want.
Indeed, that has led to more calls for the Australian to go in the wake of that defeat to the league leaders.

Even so, it must be noted that he is having to work without a number of key defenders, with Mickey van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario all out injured.
Such a situation may call for Postecoglou to be given some slack at Tottenham, especially when you see the potential they are showing with their attacking play.
With that in mind, if things continue in this way then their could be some tough decisions to make for Daniel Levy and co.
In other news, Liverpool manager Arne Slot apparently tricked Ange Postecoglou ahead of Sunday’s game.
