Tottenham fans fume after Rodrigo Bentancur update – ‘absolute joke’
Tottenham have endured a tough campaign with injuries contributing to a woeful campaign that leaves their trophy hopes hanging by a thin thread.
Spurs sit 12th in the Premier League table and are out of both domestic cup competitions after defeats against Liverpool and Aston Villa in the space of four days earlier in February.
Postecoglou’s only hope of silverware this season now comes in the Europa League, where they will face AZ Alkmaar across two legs in the round of 16.
Rodrigo Bentancur has exemplified the struggles at Tottenham this term, with a suspension for racist remarks and two separate head injuries preventing him from playing a full part in the 2024-25 campaign.

‘Tottenham open Bentancur contract talks’
According to the Daily Mail (24 February), Tottenham have opened talks with Bentancur over a new deal – with his current contract set to expire in June 2026.
It is claimed discussions are at a “very early stage” but Spurs are willing to extend the Uruguay international’s stay at the club.

Postecoglou has responded to the report but did not confirm talks had taken place, insisting it will be “handled by others”.
The Australian added: “He’s come off a long term injury and then came back and got another injury and then a false start with a long suspension. He just needs regular game time. He’s a good guy, experienced and will be important in the run-in.”

Spurs fans want new signing to replace Bentancur
Tottenham fans have responded to the news on social media, with some suggesting their club have made the wrong decision.
Some Spurs supporters called for the club to pursue an upgrade on Bentancur when the summer window opens, with one naming Brighton star Carlos Baleba as an ideal target.
