‘Signing imminent’, ‘Your staying’ – Tottenham fans left hopeful after star’s Twitter update
Tottenham fans have been left feeling incredibly hopeful on social media of Toby Alderweireld signing a new contract with the club after he posted an update on his Twitter account.
The centre back has been out on international duty with Belgium for the two week break, and played the full 90 minutes on Tuesday night as his country picked up a 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia.
However the 29-year-old, who is at the centre of a contractual controversy at Spurs, was straight back to his club after turning out for his national side, revealing via his personal Twitter account he was back at Tottenham’s training ground less than 24 hours after playing.
His update has left the Lilywhites faithful hopeful over him putting pen to paper over a new deal, with his current contract set to expire next summer and an extension clause meaning he could depart for a cut price if it is activated.
Here, Football Insider has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best tweets:
Alderweireld has had a difficult season with Spurs, with injury limiting him to making just 17 appearances across all competitions, and he has not turned out in the Premier League since the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United back in October.
In other Tottenham news, the club could be set for a massive overhaul after a goal machine joined an ever growing list.
