‘Don’t go’, Going to miss you’ – Tottenham fans react to Alderweireld Twitter message to fans

Tottenham fans have reacted to their defender’s Twitter message on Thursday after the Belgian international took to the social media platform to celebrate the club’s Champions League confirmation.

His social media interaction came on the back of the club’s 1-0 win against Newcastle in their penultimate game of the season and led the defender to Tweet: “Good win & @ChampionsLeague spot secured! #COYS #THFC.”

Alderweireld got onto the pitch for the final seven minutes, as an 83rd-minute substitute for Kieran Trippier, to huge applause from the Wembley crowd.

There was a feeling of desperation though amongst sections of supporters as they responded to their hero with calls for the 29-year-old to stay at the club.

The centre-back is widely expected to exit the North Londoners this summer after failing to agree to a contract extension but his future remains a mystery as nothing is yet set in stone.

Alderweireld is considered to be the best defender at the Lillywhites but has been shut-out from matters on the pitch by manager Mauricio Pochettino who has preferred to use Davison Sanchez over the Belgian.

Despite his omission from the side, Alderweireld has remained on social media with messages of support for teammates.

Here is a round-up of some of the best Twitter reactions from fans in response to the player’s Tweet:
