Tottenham fans react to ‘disgraceful’ top-earner reveal as insider shares wage data

Tottenham fans have been left stunned that Conor Gallagher is currently the club’s highest paid player.

Gallagher joined Spurs in the January transfer window, after moving from Atletico Madrid for a fee of around £35million, with previous experience at rivals Chelsea.

The 26-year-old has started every Premier League game since the move, with Spurs fighting to avoid a shock relegation to the Championship.

Spurs are only four points above the drop zone, with a 4-1 defeat to Arsenal meaning they remain 16th in the table with 11 games to go.

Tottenham recruitment ‘awful’ after Conor Gallagher reveal

Spurs’ wage bill increased from £222m in the 2023-24 season to £249m last season, with ambitions of increasing their wage bill to the levels of top six clubs.

Relegation to the Championship though would mean Spurs would have to reduce their wage bill and offload many of their top earners.

It has been a tumultuous season off the pitch as well as on it at Spurs, stemming from the departure of chief executive Daniel Levy in September.

Frustrations among the fanbase are growing, and they have only increased after learning via a Guardian journalist cited on social media that Gallagher is the highest paid first team star on £200,000 a week.

One supporter said there is “something wrong with Tottenham,” whilst another claimed that Gallagher is “not even worth £100k a week.”

Tottenham among clubs chasing Bournemouth star

Spurs’ transfer business will also depend on whether the club are in the Premier League or the Championship next season.

The club are looking to bolster their defensive options with the free addition of Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi.

Senesi though will have a number of options to choose from in the summer, including Barcelona, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Everton.

The 28-year-old has started all but one match for Bournemouth this season, with Andoni Iraola’s side once again exceeding expectations in the Premier League.

Spurs centre-back Micky van de Ven has been linked with a move away from the club regardless of whether they remain in the Premier League, with Liverpool and Real Madrid showing interest.
