Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Chelsea win against Arsenal

By Harry Sykes

Chelsea extended their lead at the Premier League summit to a mammoth 12 points following their 3-1 win over Arsenal on Saturday – and Tottenham fans on Twitter had mixed feelings about the result.

Goals from Marcos Alonso, Eden Hazard and substitute Cesc Fabregas were enough to overwhelm the visitors from north London and secure a ninth consecutive home win for Antonio Conte’s side.

The result effectively ends Arsenal’s hopes of winning the title with 14 matches of the campaign remaining, while Chelsea’s strongest challengers appear to be Tottenham and Liverpool.

Spurs have not finished above their bitter north London in the league during Arsene Wenger’s 20-year reign and blew a big advantage to falter at the end of last season and limp to a third-placed finish, once again behind Arsenal.

Tottenham fans are desperate to finish above Arsenal and were happy to see the team from down the Seven Sisters Road drop three points for the second time in a week after their shock loss to Watford on Tuesday.

But the Spurs faithful have little love for Chelsea and are disappointed that their side have such a huge gap to claw back in the title race.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Tottenham host Middlesbrough in the Premier League in the Saturday evening clash, which kicks off at White Hart Lane at 5.30pm.

Chelsea will be looking to extend their lead further when they travel to Burnley in the Premier League next Sunday for a lunchtime kick-off, while Arsenal host Hull on Saturday afternoon.

In other Tottenham news, Chris Sutton has claimed Tottenham are better run than their great north London rivals.
