Tottenham fans ‘won’t be happy’ after Eric Dier talks update – expert

Alan Hutton has suggested Tottenham fans won’t be happy if Eric Dier signs a new contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs right-back said that although Dier will want to stay at the London club, they need to make big defensive changes this summer.

The 29-year-old will have a year left on his current deal at the end of the season after signing an extension back in 2020.

On Saturday (15 April), Football Insider revealed that the Lilywhites have opened talks with the defender to extend his stay until the summer of 2026.

The club are believed to be keen to wrap up a new deal for the long-serving star irrespective of who the new manager is.

When asked if the England international might want to move on from Spurs after almost ten years with the club, Hutton told Football Insider: “It is a tough one.

Defensively it has been really difficult for Tottenham, as we saw against Bournemouth. I think it needs a lot of work in the summer.

Will Dier want to stay? Probably. We are talking about a big football club that is going for top four every season to play in the Champions League. So of course he will want to stay.

Where does he move on to? That is the question.

But I think they need reinforcements and they need them soon because they have been poor defensively.

Will all the Tottenham fans be happy if he signs a new long-term deal? I am not so sure.
