Tottenham first teamer provides update on injury situation
By Harvey Byrne
Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has told that he will return 10 days before the rest of the first team squad this summer as he continues his recovery from an ankle ligament injury.
The 21-year-old was enjoying a run in the Spurs senior side, playing 33 times in all competitions before suffering a season ending injury during a clash against Burnley in April.
It has been a tough time for Tottenham in regards to injuries lately and on Monday the Times reported that both Erik Lamela and Danny Rose would miss the start of the 2017-18 season.
But, now Winks has given some encouraging news to fans, suggesting that he will be available once the senior squad starts it’s pre-season preparations.
“I’m obviously still rehabbing and I’ll be in a good 10 days or so before everyone, just getting myself fit, testing my ankle and making sure it’s okay to go back into full training,” told Winks, as quoted by the official Tottenham website.
“I’ve almost got a pre-season before a pre-season just to get myself fit so hopefully I can come back in the best shape I can possibly be in.”
Winks is one of Tottenham’s brightest prospects and has improved steadily after making his first team debut as far back as 2014.
He will now be looking to earn more experience in the next campaign, which will see Spurs compete in the Champions League for the second consecutive year while also playing their home matches at Wembley.
But, manager Mauricio Pochettino will also be looking to strengthen his squad this summer, which could give Winks a further battle for a first team place.
