‘Tottenham given final FA punishment decision over Chelsea incident’

Tottenham have received final word from the FA over their potential punishment in the fallout from their clash with Chelsea in December, according to the Daily Mail.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side have experienced a tough season, being subjected to a 4-3 defeat by their rivals on 8 December 2024, leading to much frustration from the supporters in the crowd.

Dominic Solanke quickly opened the scoring before Dejan Kulusevski doubled Spurs’ lead, only for Jadon Sancho, Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez to ruin the party.

Son Heung-min’s goal six minutes into added time was only a consolation goal in front of the home fans, sparking a near-riot in the crowd, with the team then winless in four matches.

Actions from those at Hotspur Way saw the FA launch an investigation, which now looks to have concluded and both clubs have been made aware of the decision.

Tottenham receive no punishment after Chelsea scenes

According to the Mail [19 February], Spurs have escaped any punishment from the FA, only receiving a “slap on the wrist” despite many expecting a hefty fine to emerge at Hotspur Way.

Instead, the FA have reminded the Lilywhites of their responsibilities after objects were thrown at Chelsea players during the clash on 8 December 2024.

Palmer was one of the players pelted with objects from the crowd as he lined up to take a corner in front of the South Stand, with some of his teammates also targeted during the clash.

Football Insider verdict

While the ugly scenes back in December should be nothing to joke about, it shows just how passionate the supporters are about beating their London rivals.

With so many of the first-choice players out missing through injury, there seems to be a distinct lack of leadership on the pitch, especially with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero sidelined.

That has been extremely clear throughout the campaign, with Spurs slipping to 12th in the Premier League table, though they were in a much worse place just a few matches ago.

Once the summer transfer window opens up, it will be integral for Postecoglou to get rid of most of the deadwood within the squad and bring in some players who can show some real passion on the pitch.

Tottenham owner Daniel Levy will be forced to open his pockets if his manager is to have any chance of succeeding, something he does not willingly do very often.
