Tottenham given new encouragement in pursuit of ‘Liverpool fan’ Ivan Toney – sources

Tottenham are still keen to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

As revealed by Football Insider (16 March) Spurs’ rivals Arsenal have cooled their long-term interest in the forward ahead of the summer window.

This has opened the door for Ange Postecoglou’s side, who are keeping close tabs on Toney, to make a move for the England international.

Well-placed sources have also told Football Insider that Chelsea are also keen on Toney, 28, but they would need to sanction multiple player departures before they could legally finance a move amid their profit and sustainability worries.

Tottenham still want Brentford star Ivan Toney this summer

Football Insider revealed last year (7 November) that Tottenham are set to go head-to-head with Premier League rivals for Toney’s signature this summer.

The Bees’ starman has four goals in 10 Premier League appearances this season after this suspension for gambling offences ended in January and was called up to the England squad for the international break.

Last season, he notched 20 goals and four assists across 33 league outings for Thomas Frank’s side.

Since Brentford’s promotion in 2021, Toney, who Jurgen Klopp says is a Liverpool fan, has emerged as one of the league’s most prolific goalscorers having bagged 36 goals in 78 top flight outings.

Spurs could also make their loan move for Timo Werner permanent this summer, with Football Insider revealing (21 March) that it will depend on if they qualify for the Champions League.
