Tottenham have been in talks over takeover deal – ‘I’ve been hearing about this’

Tottenham could be put up for sale after it emerged that groups have been in talks over a takeover.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who is unsure whether Spurs‘ current ownership are committed to the club.

Spurs’ owners have insisted the club are not for sale, following the departure of executive chairman Daniel Levy.

Following his departure, Spurs announced they would conduct an accounting review into Levy’s tenure at the club.

Tottenham make ‘dramatic change’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – thinks the club have not had a plan following Levy’s departure.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has heard that groups have been in talks over agreeing a takeover deal.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’m not seeing dominant leadership from the Lewis family coming in. They’ve obviously made a very dramatic change with Daniel Levy, but it’s as though they made the change, but then they didn’t really have a big plan to make things, you know, a little bit different.

“And they’ve sort of cobbled together a group of people running the club. So I’m a little bit concerned about that right now. And to me, it would smack of are they really committed long-term, or are they trying to dress up the club for a potential sale, which has been rumoured for a long, long time.

“I’ve been hearing about this, I’ve heard of two or three groups. I know that they’ve had conversations about trying to buy Spurs. And so it wouldn’t surprise me still if the Lewis family are eventually looking for that. And we’ve discussed that before.”

Thomas Frank fighting for Tottenham future

Thomas Frank’s future as Spurs manager remains uncertain, with the pressure still firmly on the Dane to improve results.

Frank has been left unhappy with indiscipline from some of his players, with Spurs having received three red cards this season.

The former Brentford boss wants to continue to shape the squad into his own in the January window, with defensive reinforcements being a priority.
