Kieran Maguire issues ‘wallet-emptying’ claim as Tottenham hit by £30m hammer blow
Tottenham may miss out on over £30million in revenue following their elimination from the Europa Conference League.
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the impact of Uefa’s recent adjudication.
A Covid outbreak meant Tottenham were unable to play their pivotal final group stage match against Stade Rennais, originally slated for 9 December.

Spurs revealed on Monday (20 December) that Uefa have ruled the match will not go ahead, effectively disqualifying them from the tournament.
Maguire explained the impact that the ruling body’s decision could have on the North London club’s bottom line.
“In terms of prize money, we’re talking about £7m from the core pot,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“That might not sound like a lot but then you add on the coefficient and the fact BT are paying a lot for the rights.
“One of the pots is linked to how much your domestic broadcaster is paying in.
“By the time you factor everything in, they could miss out on £10m to £12m in prize money, that is if they went all the way in the competition.
“The issue for Spurs is they have this magnificent stadium which is an incredible wallet-emptying experience as soon as you’re through the door.
“They would have to get the pricing right in terms of tickets but the stadium can generate between £2m to £5m for each home fixture.
“That money has been denied to them as well. When you put everything together, we’re probably talking £30m in lost revenue.
“You also get bonuses from sponsors if you win the competition. Winning it also guarantees qualification for the Europa League next season.
“They would have that as a backstop, though they will clearly be aiming to qualify by the conventional route.”

Antonio Conte’s Tottenham currently sit 7th in the Premier League.
They would qualify for the Conference League again in 2022-23 if that is where they finish this season.
