Medical expert: Tottenham have just confirmed ‘critical’ Japhet Tanganga decision
Japhet Tanganga will be fit and firing ahead for next season after Tottenham made the “critical decision” to send him for surgery.
That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.
Tanganga, 22, has been sidelined with a knee injury since the end of January.
Tottenham confirmed last Friday (18 March) that the defender has gone under the knife and will now miss the rest of the season.
But Dinnery expects that the academy graduate will be in a position to “hit the ground running” ahead of 2022-23.
“This has been an ongoing problem going back to January that has kept him sidelined,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“But it was being managed prior to that as well. That’s an indication that we’re probably looking at meniscal or cartilage damage.
“That can be managed conservatively. The hope would have been to wait to the end of the campaign and then address that then.
“That hasn’t been the case. But the fact that they have looked at it that way up until this point suggests that he wasn’t progressing as hoped.
“They have made that critical decision now so he can hit the ground running and be ready for next season.”

Tanganga has turned out 19 times this season and 43 times for Spurs in total.
The Londoners are currently 5th in the Premier League and are next in action against Newcastle United next Sunday (3 April).
