Kieran Maguire: Tottenham have just missed out on ‘serious’ cash after Uefa ruling confirmed
Tottenham have missed a “serious” revenue-generating opportunity after Uefa elected to hold the Champions League final in Paris.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the re-organised May 2022 showpiece.
Uefa confirmed last Friday (25 February) that the final has been moved from St Petersburg to Paris in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Per the Daily Mail last Wednesday (23 February), the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium had also been one of the leading contenders to stage the match.
Spurs have hosted blockbuster heavyweight boxing clashes and NFL matches in a bid to squeeze as much revenue as possible from the venue.
And the Londoners could have boosted income at the 63,000-seater stadium even further with the Champions League glory match, asserts Maguire.
“You would normally charge a hosting fee, which is a flat fee,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“With the prestige of the Champions League final, it’s capable of generating serious revenue.
“They would also make money on the catering on the day. On a normal home match, they aim to make £800,000 from catering receipts.
“They are incredibly efficient in the range and speed of service. For a Champions League final, that would only increase.
“If they were going to choose a stadium in the UK, you’re looking at Wembley, the London Stadium, or Spurs’ stadium.
“I think Spurs have got the edge over the likes of the Emirates in London.”

The Daily Mail reported earlier this month (9 February) that Spurs are considering a bid to stage the Super Bowl after 2026.
That would put a dent in their stadium debt, which currently stands at £703m.
