Medical expert: Ryan Sessegnon has ‘exposed’ a ‘real problem’ at Tottenham

Ryan Sessegnon’s latest injury has “exposed” the fact that Tottenham lack squad depth.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Sessegnon, 21, is currently sidelined with his fourth hamstring injury this season and has not featured since the 5-0 win over Everton on 7 March.

The wing-back had started four successive league games before his setback, with Antonio Conte turning to Sergio Reguilon in his absence.

Per football.london last Friday (18 March), Conte revealed Sessegnon will have another scan in four weeks before he resumes training if all goes well.

But it could be early May before he returns to play and that leaves Spurs short of options in a thinning squad in the meantime, claims Dinnery.

“There have been a couple of serious issues prior to this one,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“The worry is, why does this keep on happening? We’ve heard Antonio Conte discussing a few theories about that.

“When he comes back will depend on where they are in the league at the time and also the form of the likes of Sergio Reguilon.

“This has exposed the fact that the squad isn’t blessed with a huge amount of depth. That’s a real problem these days if you pick up a few injuries.

“Return-to-play timelines, therefore, are not always black and white. But as with any player, you don’t want to bring him back too early.

“If he is out for about four weeks it could be early May before he is back in contention.”

Sessegnon has supplied one assist in 15 appearances this season.

Fellow defender Japhet Tangana and midfielder Oliver Skipp are also sidelined with respective knee and groin issues.
