Tottenham news: Kieran Maguire issues ‘huge’ Son Heung-Min claim after six-year package agreed
Son Heung-Min is a “powerful weapon” for Tottenham as they look to leverage on his popularity in Southeast Asia.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 29-year-old South Korean’s star power.
Tottenham announced last Tuesday (15 February) that they will play two exhibition matches in South Korea ahead of 2022-23.
Spurs, who also have South Korea women’s captain Cho So-Hyun on the books, claim to be the “best-supported overseas team” in the republic.
And per SportsPro on Tuesday (22 February), the Premier League have just signed a six-year rights package with Star Hub in Singapore.
Maguire explains that Son’s superstar status in Southeast Asia benefits both Spurs and the Premier League at large.
“Son is a huge factor, of course,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“You’ve only got to look at the Premier League announcing its new broadcast rights deal in Singapore. Son is front and centre of that.
“We underestimate just how significant he is, not just in South Korea but Southeast Asian football.
“The Premier League leverage on that and Spurs will do so as well. It’s a powerful weapon to have in your armoury.
“The matches will be sold out and Spurs will no doubt have negotiated a very good promoters’ fee in addition to that.“

Son has netted 10 goals and supplied seven assists in 30 Spurs matches this term.
Tottenham have launched various South Korean social media handles and initiatives to further engage with his legion of overseas fans.
