Tottenham having ‘crisis meetings’ over Thomas Frank’s future
Thomas Frank’s future remains uncertain at Tottenham as player power could influence the club’s decision over whether they sack the manager.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who reveals “crisis meetings” were held after Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to West Ham.
Spurs could have to pay up to £8million in compensation to sack Frank, with the 52-year-old only having been appointed manager in June 2025 on a three-year deal.
The Spurs fanbase have already turned against Frank, as the north London club sit just 10 points above the Premier League relegation zone.
Thomas Frank can still ‘come good’ at Tottenham
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Spurs are in a “big crisis.”
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the board still have to back Frank.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, the whispers are that there’s boardroom meetings and they’re having crisis meetings again after the West Ham game. I hope that isn’t the case.
“I hope it is about just spending some more money to back him and get the squad right. I don’t want to see player power come to the fore here, although that’s the rumour again that some of the key players in the dressing room are anti Thomas Frank.
“Look, they’ve got to back him and if they do back him and get a couple of more signings in this window, which is what I am told they have to do, then I think he will have a chance to go forward, because he’ll be able to show the players that he has the backing from the board. And that’s what the owners are going to do.
“So the Lewis family is in their first big crisis as such, now they’ve got to handle it. They’ve got Vinai [Venkatesham] who is a seasoned chief executive, but is he strong enough? Well we’re going to find out but now is the time to tough it out and stick with your manager, get him a couple of reinforcements and move on, and then it’ll come good.”

Tottenham hit with Mauricio Pochettino blow
Frank earned an important victory in the Champions League last time out as Spurs beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0, but pressure is still firmly on the Dane.
The club may have to appoint an interim manager until the end of the season if they decide to sack Frank, as target Mauricio Pochettino won’t join Spurs before the World Cup.
Pochettino, who enjoyed a spell at Spurs between 2014 and 2019, has no intention of stepping down from his role as manager of the American national team before the tournament.
