Tottenham player ratings v Southampton: Key duo suspect with 5/10 displays as Kane stars
COMMENT
Tottenham striker Harry Kane broke Alan Shearer’s record for the most Premier League league goals in a calendar year by netting a second hat trick in as many gamed during the 5-2 against Southampton.
The England forward opened the scoring with a close range header from Christian Eriksen’s free kick, a goal which saw him smash the 22-year-old record set by Newcastle United and all round footballing icon Shearer.
A defensive error almost saw Southampton handed an own goal by Danny Rose shortly after, but Kane was on hand to double Spurs’ lead with a tap in after some excellent work from the midfielders, laying the chance on a plate for their star striker.
Dele Alli and Heung-min Son went on to net early in the second half, before Kane grabbed his third with a sublime chip over the giant figure of Fraser Forster.
The visitors managed to find two goals as the game progressed, no thanks to some errors at the back, but Spurs were able to secure the three points with ease.
Here, Football Insider rates the Spurs players out of 10 for their performances at Wembley, including a duo who failed to impress with their 5/10 displays.
