Tottenham player ratings v Southampton: Key duo suspect with 5/10 displays as Kane stars
Goalkeeper and defenders
Hugo Lloris – 5: After a quiet first 20 minutes, he was almost embarrassed by Danny Rose after the defender’s header nearly managed to creep over his fingertips and into his net. A wry smile on his face showed just how lucky he was to rescue the situation. After some smart stops throughout, he should have done better for Boufal’s goal, and was left flapping for the Saints’ second.
Serge Aurier – 5: Starting for the second successive match, he was the weak link at the back and Southampton had him on toast at times, including the chance which nearly saw Rose score an own goal. Was culpable for allowing Boufal to break through on Spurs’ right for the Saints’ goal.
Davinson Sanchez – 6: Solid at the back alongside Vertonghen, he did not have too much thrown his way for the opening 45 minutes. The second half was more of a test but he handled everything that came his way, apart from at set pieces.
Jan Vertonghen – 6: A calm and collected performance at the heart of the defence, he showed his tenacity to prevent a tap in with a last ditch tackle just after the 70 minute mark.
Danny Rose – 7: Almost went from hero to zero in a matter of first half minutes. Won the free kick which gave Spurs the lead before seeing a header back to Hugo Lloris poorly executed and nearly into his own net. He was mostly solid at the back, while he was a serious threat bombing forward.
