Djed Spence to Everton: Source reveals Tottenham stance on deal in new update
Everton boss David Moyes remains keen to sign Tottenham's Djed Spence to solve his right-back issues this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Toffees manager was forced to regularly trust centre-back Jake O'Brien to play out of position throughout last season.
Seamus Coleman struggled with injuries before leaving at the end of his contract, while Nathan Patterson again failed to prove himself and could also depart this summer.
Spence has emerged onto Everton's radar in the last few weeks amid uncertainty around his future at Tottenham.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Moyes is pushing to sign the England star to solve his right-back concerns.
Spence's future is set to be confirmed when he returns from World Cup duty with the Three Lions in the coming weeks.
Everton want Djed Spence after 'problematic' right-back issues
Spence has played in all five of England's World Cup games so far, and is in line to start against Norway on Saturday after Jarell Quansah's red card.
He featured 44 times for Spurs last season and remained a regular under Roberto De Zerbi, so it is unclear whether he wants to leave this summer.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "I would be surprised if Tottenham were willing to let him go. I think he's obviously on that list at Everton as they are very keen to bring in a new right back to solve what has been a problematic role for them in the last 12 months.
"Seamus Coleman has now left, Jake O'Brien was playing there last year but he is predominantly a centre-back.
"Spence is a versatile full-back as well, which would tick a lot of boxes for Everton. He can play right-back and left-back."
Which other right-backs are Everton targeting?
Everton were closely linked with Ben White towards the end of last season, but reports about a move have lessened in recent months.
Strasbourg's Guela Doue has emerged onto their radar, but the Toffees are expected to be priced out of a move this summer.
Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Everton are keen on signing Man City's Rico Lewis after he struggled for game time last season.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has also been mooted as a target, but could snub a move to Merseyside to join another Premier League side.
