Ex-Tottenham man drops verdict on Spurs sacking Roberto De Zerbi

Roberto De Zerbi is facing questions over his position as Tottenham Hotspur manager after a miserable start to the season.

Following a 0-0 draw at home against Everton last time out, Spurs are still winless and goalless after three Premier League games, and are coming under intense pressure.

While there are concerns that the players are not performing to their usual standard, the brunt of the criticism will ultimately fall onto the manager, who is now being questioned.

Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that De Zerbi is under increasing pressure after Spurs' start to the season, regardless of his impact last season.

Spurs have been keen to stick by their manager after he kept them in the Premier League last time out, and that is unlikely to change, but results must improve.

Should they continue to struggle for results, the club could be forced into a position, and while there is a feeling things could change, it now needs to happen sooner rather than later.

Could Tottenham sack Roberto De Zerbi?

Football Insider revealed on 12 September that Tottenham's board feel their results have not been good enough despite planning to stick with De Zerbi as things stand.

The manager was backed heavily by Tottenham during the summer transfer window, and the club are keen to see a return on their investment.

However, their lack of threat in front of goal has now become a "major concern" and could invite more pressure onto the manager's position if things do not improve.

"It doesn't matter who you are," Brown told Football Insider, "If you haven't won a game and haven't scored a goal four games into the season, questions are going to be asked.

"There seems to be a feeling that Tottenham that just one result needs to go their way and then things will start to click into gear.

"But there are a lot of clubs in the Premier League who could benefit from just one result, and it's not always as easy as that, as Tottenham keep proving at the moment.

"I think the worrying thing is not just that they're not scoring, it's that they don't particularly look like scoring. The players are not confident in those sorts of areas and that's the major concern.

"It's a difficult one, because they're not playing that badly, but ultimately it comes back on the manager when they're not getting results."

How does De Zerbi feel about his future at Tottenham?

Amid growing frustrations behind the scenes and in the crowd at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, there have been suggestions that De Zerbi is also frustrated.

The boss has hit out in press conferences to question his players' attitudes and commitment, alongside some outburts about his own quality and his side's performances.

However, Football Insider revealed on 13 September that De Zerbi is not concerned about his position at Tottenham and believes he will be able to turn things around.

Any manager in the Premier League would face pressure after going four games without a win or a goal, but he has retained the club's backing for the long term.

Sources say Tottenham are reluctant to sack their manager after he saved them from the embarrassement of relegation from the Premier League when he came in last season.
