Mauricio Pochettino's chances of Tottenham 'return' revealed by source
Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to turn to Mauricio Pochettino even if they decide to part ways with Roberto De Zerbi.
The 54-year-old has recently spoken about his desire to one day return to the Premier League, as well as his love for Spurs, leading to speculation about a potential comeback.
However, he has only recently penned a new contract to extend his stay as the USA national team manager, and is unlikely to leave his post in the near future.
Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Pochettino is unlikely to return to North London any time soon regardless of whether the position becomes available.
This comes amid speculation about De Zerbi's long-term future at Spurs after what has been a miserable start to his first full season as manager.
Tottenham are without a win or a goal after four Premier League games so far, and have now been eliminated from the Carabao Cup following a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool.
How does Mauricio Pochettino feel about returning to Spurs?
Brown told Football Insider in July that Pochettino is prepared to delay a return to the Premier League after missing out on both the Tottenham and Man United jobs.
The permanent appointments of De Zerbi and Michael Carrick saw the former Chelsea boss ruled out of a return to the Premier League while he led the USA at the World Cup.
Despite new suggestions he could be looking to return to England after his recent comments, it is currently considered highly unlikely that he would be considered by Spurs.
"I don't see any way Pochettino could return to Tottenham at the moment," Brown told Football Insider.
"He's got this new contract with the USA and it seems like he's going a good job over there, they were impressive at the World Cup, so he's going to continue there.
"Every so often he does an interview, speaks about maybe returning to Tottenham, but either the timing is wrong or there are other candidates ahead of him.
"That seems like it'll be the case again, even if Tottenham do decide to sack De Zerbi, they're going to have to look somewhere else.
"I'm sure one day they would all like for him to return, he's still very highly regarded despite the way things ended there, but I'd be very surprised if it happened in the near future."

De Zerbi's future at Tottenham has been called into question following what has been a terrible start to the season in North London, compounding their recent misery.
While there are concerns that the players are not performing to their usual standard, the brunt of the criticism will ultimately fall onto the manager, who is now being questioned.
Brown told Football Insider earlier this week that De Zerbi is facing growing pressure on his position, with supporters starting to question his decisions.
Spurs have been keen to stick by their manager after he kept them in the Premier League last time out, and that is unlikely to change, but results must improve.
Should they continue to struggle for results, the club could be forced into a position, and while there is a feeling things could change, it now needs to happen sooner rather than later.
