Stefan Borson shares intriguing Tottenham take on Luka Vuskovic after '£100m' reveal

Published on:

Tottenham Hotspur cannot get caught up in regrets over Luka Vuskovic after selling him to Brighton during the summer window.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that Spurs got a "very, very good fee" for the talented defender.

After spending the 2025-26 season on loan at Hamburg, it was clear that his future was always going to lie away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Brighton ended up splashing £46million on the 19-year-old, who has since become a key figure in Fabian Hurzeler's defence at the Amex Stadium.

In fact, as per Football Insider, the Seagulls already believe that he has the potential to become a £100million player, which the club are professionals at generating.

Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella and Carlos Baleba have all reached eye-watering fees, but Brighton have no plans to cash in on Vuskovic.

Tottenham shouldn't regret Luka Vuskovic sale

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has warned the Lilywhites not to overthink their decision to sell, despite hopes for the defender on the south coast.

"You can't keep every player, and they wanted to turn the squad a little bit. And ultimately they got quite a big fee for him. It's a big profit," he said.

"And so I wouldn't be obsessing too much about whether he's successful or not. It's all very easy to say, 'This is our next £100m player'.

"It's not easy to find a buyer for £100m, certainly not a £100m centre-half. They sold them for a very, very good fee.

"It's not like they got £15m. They got £46m for him, so there's plenty built in there in terms of what they guaranteed themselves."

Who are Tottenham's most expensive players?

While some supporters will still be angry over Vuskovic's departure, Spurs have more than enough talent to survive without him in defence.

In fact, Jan Paul van Hecke, £50.5m, and Micky van de Ven, £42.1m, are two of the Lilywhites' most expensive players after an expensive summer.

Sandro Tonali, £75.8m, Mateus Fernandes, £58.9m, and Omar Marmoush, £42.1m, make up the rest of the top five.

Very few of these are likely to fetch as big a fee as Vuskovic might in the future, but Spurs were forced to make a decision at the time.
