Tottenham's Omar Marmoush deal to come with ‘£20m’ hidden fees attached

Tottenham Hotspur will have to pay “£20million” on top of any transfer fee if they want to sign Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush this summer. 

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who expects the Egyptian to ultimately stay put at the Etihad Stadium for another season.

Tottenham have been linked with the 27-year-old throughout the summer, and are now contemplating making a move for him ahead of the 1 September transfer deadline. 

However, Wyness has warned that clubs will have to pay a major premium in terms of both wages and agents’ fees if they want to land Marmoush. 

The star is facing an uncertain future in Manchester, after starting just eight games in the Premier League across the entirety of 2025-26.

Former Tottenham scout Bryan King recently told Football Insider that Marmoush earns a weekly wage of almost £300,000 at the moment, which provides a major obstacle for any interested party.

Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – is in no doubt that a move for Marmoush would require a huge financial commitment from Spurs. 

The Lilywhites have already enjoyed an eye-catching summer with their spending, but the Scottish businessman believes that this will ultimately be a step too far for them. 

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained why a deal to sign Marmoush requires so much more than just meeting City’s valuation.

“Very, very difficult,” he said when asked about how easy it would be for Spurs to land the forward.

“When you start doing the numbers, it's £280,000 a week, plus you add in agents' fees and other things like that. You're looking at the guts of £20m, and that's a lot for a club to put into something like this.

“I think he's going to be ending up staying at City. Even with the spending that we've seen at Spurs, I don't think that would happen.

“It's a big, big investment. I just don't think that one will come through because when you actually get the calculator out, that one becomes a very expensive investment for one player.”

Who could Tottenham sign instead of Marmoush?

Football Insider earlier this week that Tottenham have Folarin Balogun on their shortlist of striker targets in the final stages of the window. 

The Monaco man netted 19 times in all competitions last season, and would welcome the chance to prove himself in the Premier League. 

Roberto De Zerbi has outlined the addition of a new striker as a top priority, and Marmoush’s ability to play through the middle is one of the main reasons behind Spurs’ pursuit. 

However, a move for Balogun instead would be far more cost-effective, and could even leave the Lilywhites with more money to spend elsewhere.
