Tottenham idol ‘100 per cent’ sure on Pape Matar Sarr after Saturday development
Paul Robinson has applauded Tottenham manager Antonio Conte for giving Pape Matar Sarr the chance to impress in pre-season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane is adamant holding off on making a decision on the 19-year-old’s future is “the best course of action.”
Spurs signed Pape Matar Sarr from FC Metz in August 2021 but the midfielder immediately returned to the Ligue 1 club on a season-long loan.
On Saturday, Tottenham confirmed their squad for their pre-season tour and Sarr was included in the 28-man list.
According to the Evening Standard‘s Dan Kilpatrick (6 July), Conte will use the tour to decide on whether to keep the teenager as part of his first team or to loan him to an English club.
When asked by Football Insider if that was the right approach to take with Sarr, Robinson said: “100 per cent.
“That is the best course of action. He is giving the player an opportunity to impress and to get to know his teammates.
“Players go back the first day of pre-season physically fitter than they are at any point. The pre-season games are so competitive now you can read somewhat into them.

“The Premier League teams play each other a lot and other opposition is of an equivalent to what they would be playing through the season.
“There is an opportunity for Pape Matar Sarr to impress during this pre-season tour.”
