Tottenham idol ‘annoyed’ as Richarlison pictures emerge

Paul Robinson is “annoyed” by the yellow card brandished to Tottenham forward Richarlison on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one bemoaned the linesman not putting his flag up early to prevent the celebrations.

Tottenham climbed to third in the table with a 2-1 over Fulham on Sunday.

Richarlison looked to have given Antonio Conte’s side a third goal late on, only for VAR to rule it out for offside.

As pictured by Sky Sports (5 September), referee Stuart Attwell booked Richarlison for his taking off his shirt when celebrating the disallowed goal.

As reported by Football.London (3 September), a press officer from Spurs confirmed the yellow would stand.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the news, Robinson said: “That’s the annoying part of it.

“It is one of the flaws of the law in its current use. If you don’t stop the game and something happens after, should the player be punished for it?

“If the flag had gone up earlier he would not have celebrated and he would not have been booked. It is disappointing.

“You can see the emotion in the stadium. The players are the fans are all celebrating and then 30 seconds later it all changes. It is like, ‘What is the point in all of that.’

“It’s frustrating that he got a yellow card. You hope that he is not going to get enough yellow cards for it to matter, but it may.”
