Tottenham idol demands club sanction £27m Steven Bergwijn exit amid ‘poisonous’ claim
Tottenham “cannot stand in the way” of Steven Bergwijn exiting the club this summer, according to Paul Robinson.
The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the situation could get “poisonous” if the 24-year-old is not allowed to leave.
Bergwijn struggled for game time at Tottenham in the 2021-22 campaign.

As quoted by the Evening Standard (6 June), the Netherlands international revealed he “wants to go and play somewhere weekly.”
According to the Daily Mail (6 June), Spurs rejected an opening bid of £17million from Ajax for the winger.
Robinson believes his former club can recoup the £27million they paid for Bergwijn in January 2020.
“You cannot stand in the lad’s way,” he told Football Insider.
“He is a player that I like. I admire him and I like his attitude. I like the way he plays. Every time he is called upon he gives his all.
“He has just had an unfortunate time at Spurs when you consider the players that are already there. He is just the victim of circumstance.
“There is a lot of quality there. Bergwijn will be an asset wherever he goes.
“When there is a player of that much value not getting game time, you have to find a solution. You have to do a deal.
“I don’t think they’ll have a problem recouping the money they paid for him. He is still a top-class footballer.

“A move would be best for him. That is what he wants.
“It is difficult to keep a player who wants to leave. If they keep him and he doesn’t play, the situation will become poisonous two or three months into the season because he will be unhappy.”
In other news, a pundit has claimed Tottenham could seal a ‘bargain’ deal for Djed Spence deal after the latest from a journalist.
