Tottenham idol demands ‘proper action’ from Uefa after footage emerges

Paul Robinson has called for “proper action” from Uefa after riot police were called to action at Tottenham on Wednesday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one pointed the finger at Marseille fans for their behaviour in north London.

Spurs kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 2-0 win over Marseille on Wednesday (7 September).

As shown by a fan on Twitter (7 September), stewards had to hold back fans of the French club at full-time.

Riot police intervened as bottles and missiles were thrown between the two sets of supporters.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the scenes after the 2-0 win, Robinson said: “Marseille fans definitely instigated it.

“There was an increased police presence pre-match so there was perhaps a bit of intelligence about the Marseille fans that were coming.

“You have to take proper action against supporters who do that.

“Stadiums are more of a family environment than they have ever been.

“There needs to be strict punishment. Fines and playing games behind closed doors just have no impact whatsoever. It is simply not enough.

“There has to be repercussions but I’m sure they will not be strong enough. We will see this again no doubt.”
