Tottenham idol issues emphatic verdict as Harry Kane controversy analysed
Paul Robinson has applauded the officials for their decision to hand Tottenham striker Harry Kane a penalty against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one, who was at the game, is adamant Kane, 29, was fouled by Kristijan Jakic.
As shown on BT Sport (12 October), Kane went to ground in the first half of Tottenham’s Champions League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt following a challenge from midfielder Jakic.
Referee Carlos del Cerro Grande did not award a penalty on first look but overturned his decision after consulting the pitch-side monitor on the advice of VAR.
Kane converted the resulting spot-kick as the hosts went on to win 3-2 on the night.
The centre-forward was involved in another controversial penalty incident on Saturday (15 October), as Spurs beat Everton 2-0 in the Premier League.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the decision against Eintracht Frankfurt, Robinson said: “Look, I was in the stadium.

“I did not see any replays but in real time it was a penalty for me. I was dead in line with the 18-yard box at a good level and I immediately thought it was a penalty. There was no doubt in my mind.
“At match pace it looked like a penalty. The referee has watched it back on VAR in slow motion and come to that decision as well. I think that is one that VAR got right.”
In other news, a source has revealed the door has opened for Tottenham to sign Stefan de Vrij in January as price tag tumbles.
