Tottenham idol ‘questions’ Oliver Skipp amid behind-the-scenes reveal – ‘I’ll be honest’

Paul Robinson has questioned whether Oliver Skipp is of the required level for Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-White Hart Lane number one said the 22-year-old must “step up” to prove he is as good as Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Skipp was named in the starting lineup for Tottenham’s trip to Bournemouth on Saturday (29 October).

However, the centre-midfielder was replaced by Lucas Moura at half-time with his side 1-0 down.

Antonio Conte’s side went on to win 3-2 at the Vitality Stadium.

According to Football.London‘s Alasdair Gold (24 October), Skipp has been leading all of the fitness testing within the club for the past four weeks.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Skipp’s return from injury, Robinson said: “It is great to see him back to full fitness and playing.

“He has been given his opportunity because of injuries.

“I’ll be honest, I think he still has a lot to prove to be considered of the level of the others. Bentancur and Hojbjerg have been brilliant this year.

“Spurs have a lot of quality in that side. To progress and move on they need players like Skipp to prove themselves.

“Conte is giving him that opportunity at the moment. I question whether Skipp is of the level of Bentancur though. Skipp has to step up.”

Skipp has made seven appearances across all competitions this season.

Two of those outings have been starts.
