Tottenham idol suggests real reason Yves Bissouma axed after latest development

Yves Bissouma has been “a victim” of Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s success at Tottenham this season.

That is the view of former White Hart Lane number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Bissouma’s lack of game time in north London.

Antonio Conte dropped Bissouma for the Champions League clash against Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday (26 October).

The centre-midfielder was an unused substitute in a 1-1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Bissouma started Tottenham’s previous two fixtures against Man United and Newcastle.

Sources told Football Insider on 6 October that tactical reasons are behind Bissouma’s lack of involvement.

When asked for his assessment of the latest, Robinson told Football Insider: “I think Bissouma has been a victim of the manager’s system.

“Conte started the season with the players who had done well the previous year. The problem for Bissouma was, they got off to a good start so there was no reason for Conte to change it.

“When we have played a 3-5-2 Bissouma has come in. I cannot see Conte playing that system at home though. I think he was forced to do it against Man United and Newcastle because of the personnel available to him. Bissouma has done well for me.”

Bissouma has made 13 appearances across all competitions for Spurs this season.

However, just four of those outings have been starts.
