Tottenham idol ‘surprised’ by Harry Kane development – ‘it’s frightening’

Paul Robinson is “surprised” Tottenham striker Harry Kane was awarded the man of the match in England’s win over Senegal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper said Jude Bellingham was “definitely the best player on the pitch” on Sunday (4 December).

Kane was named man of the match after the Three Lions beat Senegal 3-0 to book their place in the World Cup quarterfinals.

The centre-forward scored his first goal of the tournament in the last 16 tie.

Bellingham also excelled in the win, providing the assist for Jordan Henderson’s opener.

When asked by Football Insider if the 19-year-old was unlucky to miss out on the accolade, Robinson said: “I was surprised Kane got it because Bellingham had to be the man of the match for me.

“His all-round performance was outstanding.

“Alongside, Henderson and [Declan] Rice he is allowed more freedom. That paid dividends with two of the goals. His link-up play was excellent, especially with [Phil] Foden.

“He is the complete midfielder at 19. It is frightening to think he’s already this good.

“Him and [Kylian] Mbappe have stood above head and shoulders above everyone else at the tournament so far.

“Kane was very good and he got his goal which was great to see. That will be a weight lifted off his shoulders for sure. Bellingham was definitely the best player on the pitch though. Make no mistake about that.”

In other news, Tottenham may have already identified a replacement for Lucas Moura after journalist’s transfer update.
