Tottenham idol ‘worried’ about Harry Kane after BBC update
Paul Robinson is “worried” about Tottenham striker Harry Kane ahead of the knockout stages of the World Cup.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one fears the 29-year-old is not fully fit and has been overplayed so far.
Kane has started all three of England’s World Cup group fixtures, including the 3-0 win over Wales on Tuesday (29 November).
According to the Daily Mail‘s Sami Mokbel (27 November), the striker told Gareth Southgate he wanted to play against Wales despite concerns over his fitness.
Speaking to the BBC (29 November), Kane said there is “hype and noise” over his fitness.
England play Senegal for a place in the quarter-finals on Sunday (4 December).
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the latest, Robinson said: “I was worried about him after the first game.
“The problem is, he is desperate to stay on when there is goals to be had. That is the type of player he is.
“He is England’s captain and was one of the favourites for the Golden Boot. I cannot see him winning that now though.

“I understand why Gareth has started him in all three games but I think he should have been protected more. At times, the manager needs to overrule him and give him a rest.
“To win this tournament, England need a fit Harry Kane. I fully expect him to start against Senegal. It is now about how he is managed through the game.”
