Tottenham in ‘big trouble’ after Cristian Romero development – pundit
Tottenham are in “big trouble” with Cristian Romero likely to miss their upcoming games.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s latest triumph.
Romero, 24, played the full 120 minutes as Argentina beat France to win the World Cup on Sunday evening (18 December).
He is now in Argentina celebrating winning the World Cup while Spurs gear up for a return to Premier League action.
Romero is likely to be given time off after going all the way in Qatar, meaning he could miss several Tottenham games.
McManus insists this puts Antonio Conte in a difficult place.
“They’re in big trouble because Tottenham only have one good defender,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“He’s just gone and won the World Cup so he might not be back with Tottenham for a few weeks. He’s played pretty much every game so he hasn’t had a rest like the players who went out in the group.
“Will he play again for Tottenham this year? I’m not sure. I would be surprised because the club will want to make sure they don’t run him into the ground.
“So you look at that defence without Romero in and it’s not exactly strong. It’s been a poor defence all season and that’s with Romero in it.
“So you worry about Tottenham because without Romero there they will continue to ship goals.

“Harry Kane better find his form because he will need to score a few to balance that out.
“They will miss him [Romero].”
