Tottenham seem to be facing a make-or-break summer come the end of the season following a mixed bag of a campaign.
Few could argue that Spurs’ achievements in the Champions League were a massive step up from the past couple of years, and although they came undone against an experienced Juventus side, their performance in the group stages was nothing short of exceptional.
However, they have either stagnated or regressed on the domestic stage, falling behind the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United in the Premier League, while disappointing exits in both the League Cup and FA Cup mean it is another season without silverware.
As such, there be questions being asked over their future, and while in the short term they look safe from losing many of their star players, a lack of success could drive their top talents elsewhere – which is why this summer is such a crucial time for Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino.
However, it looks as though Spurs could well be onto the deal of the summer.
The Sun claim that Danny Rose is wanted by Manchester United and are willing to splash out not just £40million but offer Pochettino’s former Southampton star Luke Shaw as part of a sensational swap deal.
Pochettino was said to be uncertain about letting his current star leave, but having eyed up Shaw as a potential replacement, is willing to do a deal where they get both a replacement and cash in hand.
Considering the 22-year-old sold for £30million four years ago, that seems like a stunning win-win scenario for Spurs, even if the youngster’s development has stalled at Old Trafford.
Pochettino was the man to get the best out of Shaw on the south coast and his young age means there is plenty of growing to be done, and there should be little doubt that the Argentinian boss will be asking Levy to snap Ed Woodward’s hand off.
