Kieran Maguire: Tottenham ‘in the box seat’ amid £255m reveal
Tottenham will be in a uniquely strong position under Uefa’s new spending controls because of their cost control in recent years.
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the revenue-based system set to replace financial fair play.
Per the New York Times last Tuesday (22 March), clubs must spend no more than 70 per cent of turnover on signings, wages and agents fees.

Spurs recorded revenue of £361.9m in their last set of accounts, meaning they would be able to spend £255.3m under the new model.
They are the only Premier League team that would currently satisfy the new rules, according to data published by Maguire on Twitter last Tuesday.
And the spreadsheet expert explained why Spurs are “in the box seat” ahead of Uefa rolling out the new rules.
“In my view, I suspect Uefa will allow player sales into the equation too,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“Spurs are in the box seat when it comes to any changes to cost control measures because they have historically managed a very tight ship.
“They have started to pay more money out in terms of transfers, although there was a period of time when they weren’t.
“But if we take a look at wages, for example, Spurs’ wage bill is closer to Norwich’s than it is to Chelsea.”

Spurs’ wage bill was 57 per cent of their total income in 2020-21.
They posted an £80.2million loss for the financial year.
