Tottenham insider unhappy with ‘utterly depressing’ Emerson reveal from Gold
It would be “utterly depressing” if Tottenham are looking to replace Emerson Royal after an “underwhelming” outing against Watford.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
As per Alasdair Gold (2 January) Tottenham are in the market for a new right-back in January.

This came after Royal, 22, failed to find his man on several occasions in a poor performance against Watford on New Year’s Day.
As per WhoScored, the defender attempted 14 crosses against Watford with only five of them proving successful.
Wenham hopes Spurs’ transfer mission is simply to look for a replacement for Matt Doherty.
“If Emerson had been Trent Alexander-Arnold we would have put five or six past Watford,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He kept finding himself in acres of space on the right-hand side but the crosses were all underwhelming or overhit.
“Having said that it would be utterly depressing if we were looking for a new starting right-back.
“If anyone can improve that final ball from Emerson, it’s Antonio Conte. I have no doubts about that.
“There is a decent player in there and that he can be improved. It would be wrong to write him off.
“I hope if we are signing a new right-back it is simply to replace Doherty, who looks like he won’t be here in February.

“I do wonder if Royal could play as a right-sided centre-back, he has the build and height for it in my opinion.
“Royal is still settling in and I’m sure he will improve as the season goes on.”
