Tottenham insider fumes at governing body amid ‘very annoying’ Cristian Romero development today
John Wenham has been left unimpressed by the Argentina FA after it was revealed Tottenham defender Cristian Romero is back in his homeland.
Spurs insider Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channel, can’t understand why the defender won’t be at Hotspur Way this week.
On Monday (21 March), The Athletic reported Romero, 23, has been called up to Argentina’s squad for this month’s international games.
However, the defender was not named in the international squad when it was announced on 18 March and currently faces a two-game suspension.
The Athletic claim the Argentina FA are set to appeal the ban, making Romero available for the country’s final game, if successful.
If the appeal is unsuccessful, Romero’s trip to Argentina could be viewed as futile.
When asked for his reaction to this developing news, Wenham told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild, “I’m not very impressed with that, to be honest with you.
“We have had issues with this earlier in the season. He has now had a settled run of games in our side.
“He’s also now an important player in this side and him wandering off to Argentina is not ideal.
“I would rather he spent the next two weeks doing the same drill over and over.
“We need him to be better at defending those corners.

“So if he did that and nothing else for two weeks that would be better than going to Argentina where he might not even play.
“I find the whole thing very annoying.”
